Seroquel (quetiapine) is a medication that is used to treat a range of mental/mood disorders. It falls under the category of antipsychotics and is often prescribed for conditions like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder. Seroquel works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the body, thereby reducing psychotic symptoms.
Seroquel is primarily prescribed to treat the symptoms of an antipsychotic-induced fits or to help prevent constipation. Its primary purpose is to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It may also be used to treat symptoms of manic and depressive episodes in both children and adults. Seroquel is not a miracle cure for bipolar disorder, however, it can be a valuable aid in managing symptoms of both manic and depressive episodes.
Seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic that is often prescribed for the symptoms of schizophrenia. Unlike other antipsychotics, Seroquel does not require a prescription and is available over the counter in most pharmacies without a prescription. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain, thereby reducing psychotic symptoms. This mechanism of action makes Seroquel a valuable option in the treatment of schizophrenia.
Seroquel works by blocking dopamine and serotonin receptors, thereby increasing the pleasurable effects of these neurotransmitters. In addition to its effectiveness in treating schizophrenia, Seroquel also helps reduce manic symptoms, although it is not a cure for this. As a result, it is often preferred by individuals experiencing both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder because it can be a viable option for both as they both have a well-established cure rate.
Other uses for Seroquel include its off-label use in the management of certain conditions like bipolar disorder. Off-label use refers to the practice of using Seroquel for conditions not listed on the drug's label, such as depression or manic episodes in bipolar disorder. Some individuals may also benefit from Seroquel in the management of certain forms of bipolar disorder, including manic and depressive episodes.
Seroquel is an antipsychotic medication that works by blocking receptors in the brain. These receptors regulate the level of chemicals in the brain that cause psychotic symptoms. When Seroquel is used to treat conditions like schizophrenia, it helps to reduce the levels of dopamine and serotonin in the brain, thereby managing psychotic symptoms. By minimizing these neurotransmitters, Seroquel helps to reduce the severity of psychotic symptoms.
Seroquel is often prescribed for the management of various mental/mood disorders, including bipolar disorder. It is often used to treat symptoms of mania/depression and depression in bipolar disorder. However, it is also sometimes prescribed off-label for the treatment of depressive episodes in bipolar disorder.
Like any medication, Seroquel has potential side effects. While not all of these side effects may be experienced by everyone, if these become severe it is essential to notify a healthcare provider. The side effects reported by individuals with bipolar disorder include:
If any of the side effects become severe, it is important to notify a healthcare provider right away. The following are some of the more rare but serious side effects that individuals should avoid while taking Seroquel.

Seroquel primarily works by increasing the availability of these neurotransmitters, thereby reducing serotonin activity. Seroquel reduces, or even inhibits, the re-uptake of serotonin from the synaptic cleft, thus increasing serotonin levels in the brain. This action of Quetiapine is due to the fact that it binds to dopamine receptors, preventing the re-uptake of serotonin and dopamine. By blocking these receptors, Quetiapine helps to minimize the chances of serotonin toxicity. Seroquel is a potent medication which has a broad range of applications, from treatment of conditions like depression to alleviating manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Its primary function is in treating major depressive disorder by reducing natural depressive episodes. Quetiapine is not a diuretic but rather a potential option for patients who cannot take other medications they are prescribed for. It is an oral tablet which is absorbed * colloquially, Quetiapine, Seroquel, or D`AbbVieIndications/Uses:Quetiapine is a prescription medication which is indicated for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and as adjunct to therapy with lithium, divalproex, or certain other antidepressants. It is also indicated for the treatment of mania in patients who have experienced episodes of mania or who are at high risk for the onset of mania in the past. In some instances, Quetiapine can also be used to treat severe depression, or as an adjunctive medication to therapy with lithium, divalproex or certain other antidepressants. The mechanism of action of Quetiapine is not known, but it is believed to occur by antagonizing a specific type of chemical called dopamine (DDA) re-uptake. DDA is a neurotransmitter which is involved in mood, motivation, sleep, and memory consolidation. Quetiapine has been shown to inhibit the re-uptake of DDA and this inhibition leads to a reduction in the levels of dopamine and other neurotransmitters. Thus, Quetiapine inhibits the re-uptake of serotonin and therefore serotonin levels. Quetiapine is not a diuretic, but is a potential medication for inhibiting the re-uptake of potassium from the blood. It is thought to come as a modest dose pill to take orally, or as an oral tablet to be taken through the anal passage as well. It is not known if Quetiapine is also indicated for the treatment of other conditions such as bipolar depression or mania. This medication is also typically used by the general population as a second-line therapy in bipolar disorder due to significant improvement in the efficacy of Lithium treatment. However, since it is not a potent medication it is often indicated for other uses, particularly for the treatment of manic episodes in bipolar disorder.
Dosage:The dosage of Quetiapine for bipolar disorder varies based on the condition being treated. For example, the recommended starting dose of Quetiapine is 25mg as a single dose. The dosage of Quetiapine prescribed to bipolar disorder can be increased to 50mg or decreased to 25mg, based on individual patient factors (see Precautions). Quetiapine is usually taken orally in the morning, with or without food. It is essential to follow the prescribed dosage and duration of therapy. (See Pharmacology for Precautions). Quetiapine is an oral tablet which is absorbed * colloquially, Quetiapine, Seroquel, or D`AbbVie.
Quetiapine works by increasing the availability of the serotonin neurotransmitters serotonin 1-illing 2 (S1O2), norepinephrine (neurotransmitter), and norepinephrine (excboth). Serotonin is one of the excitatory neurotransmitters, which plays a vital role in regulating mood, motivation, and. By blocking its re-uptake, Quetiapine helps to minimize the chances of serotonin toxicity and thus enhances serotonin activity in the brain. This medication primarily works by reducing the re-uptake of serotonin, or by preventing it from re-uptake. By reducing its availability, Quetiapine helps to minimize the chances of serotonin toxicity. Seroquel primarily works by increasing the availability of serotonin, which is found in the brain, and this increased availability leads to a decrease in serotonin activity.

I have been prescribed Seroquel 5mg and it has really worked. I think that the side effects were pretty minor. If you don't have a long term side effect you have to try to have a long term dose of the drug. I have no problem taking it but if I am on it for 6 months I would consider it a long term dose. I had an allergic reaction to the drug. My doctor recommended it because it is an antipsychotic and is known to be a strong sedative. I have been on it for 7 years now and have taken it as prescribed. I think I would be able to take it when I am able to sleep but if I am having some side effects I would really consider it for a long term dose. The only side effect I have is the weight gain and I would take it when I was feeling tired and the dose is too low. I would be very concerned about this side effect. I don't think anyone should have to take Seroquel 5mg. I think this is not a good use of this drug. I have been taking it for 4 months and have had very few side effects. I am hoping that I will continue taking it and not develop this side effect or if that would be worth the risk to my doctor. I am not taking it as often as I would like. I will have to keep taking it and I will be very concerned if it does cause me any problems with my mental health and the dose is too low. If that is the case then I would stop taking it and try other meds. Thank you for your time.Read MoreRead Less
...23The Seroquel side effects were so minor that I had to stop taking it and was able to sleep through the night. I was very happy with the results. I am happy with the results and hope the side effects are not too serious.
I have been taking this medication for the last 6 months. I was prescribed 1 tablet every other day. I am a very active patient and have not had any negative side effects. I am very happy with the results. I am using it as a long term dose and I think I will be able to sleep through the night. The side effects were minimal and I would be very concerned about them. The only thing I would really concerned about was the weight gain.
